Managing Director Paul Smith explains, "This really is a superb time to pick up a fantastic deal. One of the items is a Milling Machine, a best seller, for just £2,000. To order this particular item new would cost £5,000."
Paul continues, "In this current climate, many businesses simply do not have the budgets that they would like to update their existing machinery or invest in new. Yet running on old machinery could cause breakdown and production problems. Buying some ex-demo machinery, in superb condition, could help to improve profitability and enable businesses to diversify in to other areas." | 01.04 2010 | Peterborough 100 - 5 Counties Bike Ride Challenge
City businessman and cycling enthusiast, Paul Smith, is working with national... >> more >> charity Action Medical Research, to bring a new 100 mile cycle challenge to the region. The route starts and finishes at The Marriott Hotel in Peterborough and takes in the best of the local countryside in springtime. The cleverly designed circular route, known as the ‘Peterborough 100’, takes in the five counties of Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
Paul, who is MD of Peterborough engineering firm Global Rebar Services, said, “I first worked with Action Medical Research when I cycled from London to Paris last year. I found the event inspiring and enjoyable, so wanted to keep up cycling and supporting the charity. Action Medical Research is dedicated to improving the lifes of babies and children. With two small children myself, the charity is naturally close to my heart.”
Paul continues, “I have put a lot of effort in to perfecting the route. I’ve mapped it out on the computer, cycled it, and even dragged the family round in the car. There’s some fantastic scenery and a couple of rewarding hills. I’m sure that everyone that takes part will enjoy it. Running your own business can be stressful, and I find cycling a superb way to un-wind. Events like these are great as they give you something to work towards.”
As well as the 100 mile route, there is also a 100km route, for those who don’t wish to travel quite so far. Angela Hyde, Chairperson of Peterborough Committee for Action Medical Research, has been working with Paul to bring the event to the region, “If you are a seasoned cyclist or a recreational rider, the Peterborough 100 has been designed to make sure you have the perfect day in the saddle. The route is fully supported by great route signs, marshals, bike mechanics, back-up vehicles, regular drink points and a fantastic lunch stop.”
“We organize some of the most popular and respected cycling events in the UK. Our 100-mile series comprises 17 incredible events. Our London to Paris bike ride is the largest event of its kind with five routes, all of which finish over the last few miles of the Tour de France before the Tour arrives in Paris. RIDE24 is a truly unique cycling event, cycling around the famous ‘Top Gear’ race track for 24 hours.”
The Peterborough 100 takes place on 18th April 2010. You can enter online by visiting www.action.org.uk

Exclusive machinery company Global Rebar Services, (GRS), is celebrating after... >> more >> picking up the ‘Ambassador of the Year’ award at the 2009 Sue Ryder Care Big Wigs ceremony.
The charity, which cares for people living with conditions such as Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Brain Injury, invited Cambridgeshire firms to take part in a corporate challenge that started back in April testing their business skills. Each Big Wig was given £50, provided by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society (N&P), and challenged to make it grow over a 4 month period. In total, over £12,000 was raised for the charity.
Emma Long, Fundraiser for Sue Ryder Care Thorpe Hall Hospice said “It is breathtaking how much money the Big Wigs have raised this year for Sue Ryder Care, especially during a difficult time for the business community. All Big Wigs have worked incredibly hard to reach this total and it has been a pleasure working with each and every one of them. Sue Ryder Care – Thorpe Hall Hospice needs to raise £1million locally each year and so we are truly grateful for the hard work and support all participants have given. They should be so proud that they can help us help more.”
Paul Smith, Global Rebar Service’s Managing Director, said, “We were delighted to pick up the award for Ambassador of the Year. As part of the Big Wigs challenge we spread the word about Sue Ryder Care wherever we could with our customers locally and nationally. We will definitely continue to support Sue Ryder Care and Thorpe Hall Hospice.” |
